Quite impressed by the panpipes but it did make me think of "The Clangers" midway through.

way back when my pal and i went to see Roland Kirk at the Old Place; it was amazing but at midnight the members of this band arrived and started sitting in ...at 6am we walked home on a six inch air cushion reeling and spinning

i do not recall who the Brit rhythm section was except Peter Ind on bass and he of course wlaked all through the night .... but the band and Kirk exploded off each other's verve and swing .... it could have been this band or one just like it!

Great interview, thank Calum - couldn't tear myself away; there's nothing like having a good interviewee and an interviewer who's clued up on his subject. I think most of the ground was comprehensively covered. Interesting comments on electronics vs acoustic, suitability of bass players, self-limitation as stimulus, ways of using the irrational to break habitual thought patterns. Taborne's a modernist in that he starts from where the music is or was when he started out rather than feeling a need to go back and re-cover worn ground. the first jazz musician I've heard anywhere referring to the Spectralists - I doubt if most of my generation would know about Grisey et al - and talking about "trad jazz", which Zappa told an audience over here was a British term? Maybe its just a native diffidence but I think the Americans have always been much more revealing about the workings of their music.

...i have mangaed the first half but find the interviewer a bit of a trial; but good stuff and Taborn is incredibly open as you say S_A

Following last weeks' experience of debating Ahinton on capitalism on the p*litics board, akin to tackling overgrown brambles with nail scissors, the below was welcomed as an excellent brain-laxative.

Alan Tomlinson (trombone) / Dave Tucker (guitar) / Phil Marks (drums) duo @ Mopomoso, The Vortex, London 15.7.12 filmed by Jenny Gallego

Alan Tomlinson plays with those two, plus tenor saxist Rachel Musson, tomorrow night at the Vortex, for all of you who aren't in London tomorrow.

I'd pay good money to see Michael Gove locked in a lift with that trio!

                            Maybe it can be arranged....
