all power to your recording calum da jazbo.

let's hope at this very moment, roger is putting his tape of you in the radio, ready for this lunctime's broadcast and (miraculously) the other roger has changed his mind.
I didn't know there were two. Are two Rogers in the bush worse than one in hand? Not that I'd know!

i've got my favourite toddler outfit on, complete with padded straightjacket, tutu & tiara, and a sack of salt - in preparation for being talked down to. if you listen, i suggest you do the same serial apologist, otherwise the big roger's will annoy you, really intensely.

I've added my two penn'orth to Wright's blog. I'm sorry if that's the kiss of death to the jazz cause but I believe passionately in a pluralist Radio 3.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

What a disappointment! Mention was made of Saturday afternoon, but then it wasn't put to Roger Wright, and no listeners' views were aired. Boo!

I was extremely unimpressed in any case with Wright's attitude.

Wright just selected 1 Breakfast from 1991 for comparison with 1 recent edition. Boy, he must be a busy man - obviously no time to make proper comparisons was effectively admitted. Then he cited one professional trumpet player talking about Flor Peeters out of all the incoming trivia as representative of phone-in input. Unchallenged, naturally...

I, too contributed my two farthings worth.

Tried to put a positive spin on the topic...

CONGRATS and many thanks for trying Calum, but Roger Wright sounded the usual defensive BBC prat/pillock when challenged. "New people don't complain etc...I have a far bigger postbag than you"

The BBC now is now ALL about numbers and "reach" (that reflect back on the fat controller's self image/salary) and if that means R3 is to be the new wash whiter Classic FM and a dumb race to the bottom... so be it. He's GOT his pension.

R3's upcoming sponsorship of the London Jazz Fest is equally cynical - coroporate profile over content and the "jazz box" is ticked for another year. Job done.

Off to listen to my Elmo Hope box set. (Hell, they NEVER play him!)

Still no reply to my email.

Incidentally, my Jazzwise came this morning, and there's a brief letter on the topic. I'm surprised JW hasn't made more of the issue, really.

The only jazz i hear on R3 these days is on a Sunday afternoon, is of the exceptionally old-fashioned variety, and is another excuse to get an American presenter on air. I say "excuse", but it's no excuse at all unless you are promoting jazz as a uniquely American genre.

What would that be then - I hear no jazz on a Sunday afternoon. Do you mean JRR? There's quite a lot of "old-fashioned" stuff I agree, but more modern material (I use the word advisedly!) is also aired. The presenter may be American, but does, I believe live in the UK.
