Kevin Le Gendre hosts a special edition recorded last Sunday at the Barbican a a part of this year's London Jazz Festival. The Line-up on the J to Z stage includes a South African piano star, a renowned harpist and two UK instrumentalists making waves.

Noticeable strong early 1970s McCoy Tyner influences seem to be abroad at the moment - particularly apparent in Nduduzo Makhathini's solo set, pretty much a pastiche. It would have seemed odd to have had a James P Johnson copyist presented as New Thing back then... but I guess art will be stuck in a rut until history moves on, and the Tyners, Monks and Minguses will be pro tem our emblems for better times.
