And in a live studio performance, pianist Zoe Rahman, joined by bassist Alec Dankworth and drummer Gene Calderazzo, plays music that reflects her roots and her classical beginnings.

Corey Mwamba with new jazz and improvised music, tonight featuring saxophonist Tom Ward - recorded in August during his performance at SET Lewisham, London - and the mystic sonic juxtapositions of newly formed collective Harbingers of Change. Plus a recently reissued 1972 performance by Dickie Landry (now 84) at the Leo Castelli Gallery in New York, and a sonic excursion from French collective No Tongues with vocalist Isabel Sorling.
And the the Head of the Bank of England will lead Harbingers of Doom.

Live from the Royal Festival Hall, Jumoké Fashola kicks off this year's London Jazz Festival Opening Gala, an annual celebration of singers and songwriting
. Featured artists tonight include Kurt Elling, Carroll Thompson, Amythyst Kiah and Dana Master. Guy Barker directs the specially-created London Jazz Festival Ensemble. The interval features a Count Basie mixtape celebrating the many artists born 100 years ago this year who helped create the Basie sound, including trumpeters Joe Newman and Joe Wilder, saxophonists Frank Wess, Illinois Jacquet and Eddie "Lockjaw" Davies, and arrangers Ernie Wilkins and Neal Hefti.
11pm onwards through the night - J to Z Late
Kicking off eight hours of jazz-themed programmes to mark the start of the London Jazz Festival, Jumoké Fashola presents a special live edition of Radio 3's Saturday afternoon jazz show, broadcast from the opening night of the festival. On stage at the Pizza Express Live in Holborn is a top secret line-up of festival stars, including a leading jazz vocalist, two of London's most talked about young bands, and a piano virtuoso and Mercury Prize nominee.
