Can't replay yesterday's J to Z, part of which I missed; I wanted to re-listen to the Alan Wakeman track, which was especially impressive. Maybe I'm being a bit premature, but there are no track listings down the bottom of the link, which is unusual - whereas there are for the later Freeness programme.

Come to think of it there are problems relating to the J to Z link - didn't we hear Trish Clowes being interviewed about her latest recording?

I heard all of J to z yesterday which seemed (to my jaded ears), a wall of blandness and inconsequence. There was an interview & session with Trish Clowes...ditto. As dull as watching a state funeral.

The Alan Wakeman track (from The Octet Broadcasts 1969/1979) was very good - one wold have wanted to hear more of Alan but the track played was dominated by a very fine piano solo which, had I noted the track title, was either Gordon Beck or John Taylor - the latter would be my guess. I'm wondering if this was a repeat of any earlier edition: I'll do some checking now.

I was right - yesterday's was a repeat of 30 April. I wonder why the listed programme was not transmitted? Didn't appear to be anything on offer that would offend the Cavaliers. Anyway, in case anybody wants to hear it (other than Bluesnik!) - here is the link:-

Live music from saxophonist Trish Clowes, and pianist Omar Sosa shares his inspirations.

Enjoyed the Steve Coleman track earlier, also the Mose Allison just now: unusual to hear him on a non-blues standard. I've always found his laconic manner closer to John Lewis than Monk, as often cited.

Agreed, elmo - the media have created a really suffocating atmosphere.
I'm hoping the next issue of Private Eye will bring some sanity and cheer me up.

As far as I can see this will now be transmitted this coming Saturday, so rather than reproducing the above on my forthcoming Mystic Meg communiqué I'll leave the link here as it is.
