Sat 28 May
5pm - J to Z
With Jumoké Fashola, featuring an interview with Houston-born pianist and producer Robert Glasper, who shares recordings that have shaped his sound and reflects on the shared lineage of jazz and hip-hop. And in a live performance, pianist Zoe Rahman, joined by bassist Alec Dankworth and drummer Gene Calderazzo, plays new music that reflects her roots and her classical beginnings.
12midnight - Freeness
Corey Mwamba with new jazz and improvised music, tonight featuring guitarist Tashi Dorji and drummer Susie Ibarra - who conjure tramsmutations that stretch and evolve with shades of dark and light - and New York-based pianist pianist Lucian Ban, who blends Transylvanian folk tunes and European classical music with improvisation. Plus a collaborative work of subtle ferocity from cellist Tomeka Reid, guitarist Joe Morris, cornetist* Taylor Ho Bynum and vocalist Kyoko Kitamura.
*Cornettist, methinks... The programme link below mentions Padmasambhava in connection here with Tashi Dorji and Susie Ibarra. Ms. Ibarra has worked with Derek Bailey, by the way.
Sun 29 May
4pm - Jazz Record Requests
Apologies, by the way, for my getting the BBC link to last week's JRR wrong .
I'll check the other networks when I've got a bit more time.
