A very good selection for all Sonny-ites without the Bluenote and Time albums. Odd (ironic) to be named "Sonny" and have such a hell of life. Or maybe not.

BTW: I see that Proper also now have a 4CD set of Phil Seamen out which looks like a who's who of Brit jazz to the '60s - Harriot, Feldman, Hayes, Tracey etc.

Ive now bought this for the VERY FINE trio
tracks, although the sound (Max's drums) on the final 1960 Time set is tres compressed (boot-lifted from an old CD?). The new stuff to me is the solo material Sonny recorded at a after-gig party in Oslo in 1954. Awful sound but fascinating to hear him like this relaxed and at length.

There's a solo version of "April in Paris" from the Bluenote '58 sessions which is absolutely stunning. I get the impression he had so much more to give.
