A showcase of the finest new jazz and classics of the genre, with guests, sessions and gigs. Today, Japanese pianist Hiromi shares her influences.
12midnight - Freeness
Corey Mwamba presents new jazz and improvised music with an adventurous spirit, tonight featuring a concert by double bassist Joëlle Léandre, accordionist and vocalist Pauline Oliveros and trombone player George Lewis-Corey, recorded in July 2014 by the national Czech Radio station as part of the VS Interpretation Festival in Prague.
This will be of considerable interest to our experimental/improv devotees out there across the imaginary divide.
Sun Oct 3
4pm - Jazz Record Requests
Alyn Shipton with a broad spectrum of requests, today featuring recordings by Lester Young, Marian Montgomery and Michael Brecker.
And next week's Composer of the Week is one Julius Eastman (1940-1990), a black American composer whose name is certainly new to me, and may perhaps be for you too?
