Sat 20 Feb
Yep - you've guessed it: time for The Superman to sweep away all that passeth for music of other sorts between the letters J and Z. Except that this time the programmers have no excuse about time zone requirements for New York to fall back on, this being a production from Covent Garden - and one from 2018. So there is ample cause for complaint.
12midnight - Freeness
Corey Mwamba welcomes New York-based Mexican vibraphonist Patricia Brennan, who discusses her debut solo album of improvised pieces and about how she has pushed her instrument into new territory*. And there's music by veteran American pianist Amina Claudine Myers and her trio, and Norwegian saxophonist Signe Emmeluth.
*I bet she didn't have to pay tariffs!
Sun 21 Feb
4pm - Jazz Record Requests
Alyn Shipton with music from Bessie Smith, Tommy Smith [no relation], Eric Dolphy and Horace Silver.
On Radio 4, Book of the Week: Bessie Smith (Author Jackie Kay)
Each morning, 9.45am, repeated 12.30am.
Ms Kay, who shares the readings, is Scotland's national poet. Radio Times has a double page spread on Bessie by Graeme Thompson (PP138-9).
Tuesday 23 Feb - Radio 2
9pm - The Jazz Show with Jamie Cullum
New and classic jazz recordings. Plus guests, tonight featuring an exclusive live session by energetic Afro-jazz ten-piece Nubiyan Twist, led by Tom Excell.
Shake them hips! Spread that sheet!
