Sat 23 Jan
5pm - J to Z
Jumoké Fashola with music including a home session from Benin-born guitarist and vocalist Lionel Loueke, inspired by his long-term mentor Herbie Hancock (now 80), whose compositions feature on Loueke's latest album. And American composer and band leader Maria Schneider shares her musical inspirations.
I rather suspect this is a repeat, though RT doesn't state it as being so.
12midnight - Freeness
Featuring music from a new anthology by British musician Theo Travis, marked by an explosive meeting of organ and saxophone. And there's a performance by composer Laura Toxvaerd of one of her graphic scores, joined by Maria Faust on alto saxophone and Jacob Anderskov on piano, recorded last February at Winterjazz in Copenhagen. Plus a track from Los Angeles-based multi-instrumentalist Josh Johnson.
Sun 24 Jan
4pm - Jazz Record Requests
Alyn Shipton with requests for recordings by Erroll Garner, Oscar Peterson, Bud Powell and Carla Bley.
