Sat 16 Jan
12.30pm - This Classical Life
Saxophonist Jess Gillam is joined by British composer and saxophonist Cassie Kinoshi to swap tracks and share musical discoveries. Featuring music by Prokofiev, Heiner Goebbels and Anna Thorvaldsdottir, plus a recording by Dinah Washington.
This promises to be very interesting, for a change! Cassie is something of a hero in my eyes for the amazing stuff she is undertaking right now in London.
5pm - J to Z
Kevin Le Gendre with an exclusive home session from London-based harpist Tori Handsley, who plays stripped back versions of music from her debut album.
12midnight - Freeness
Muhal Richard Abrams, George Lewis and Roscoe Mitchell explore the principles of open improvisation, and vocalist Maggie Nicols muses on the qualities of breath. And there is an improvised turntable piece by Leeds-based DJ NikNak, whose innovations in music and sound were recognised at the recent Oram Awards, which champions the pioneering talent of women, girls and gender-minority artists in music and sound.
Sun 17 Jan
4pm - Jazz Record Requests
Alyn Shipton with requests for recordings by Benny Goodman, Barbara Thompson and Ornette Coleman.
