Jazz Times..."In the spring of 1967, Sonny Rollins went on a European tour with two of his favorite musicians, bassist Ruud Jacobs and drummer Han Bennink. During one May week in the Netherlands, the trio took part in a televised performance at the Go-Go Club in Loosdrecht, a concert at the Arnhem Academy of Visual Arts, and a recording session at VARA Studio 5 in Hilversum. Although each one of these appearances was documented on tape, none of the recordings were ever publicly heard—until now. On December 4, in partnership with the Nederlands Jazz Archief and with Rollins’ own official sanction, Resonance Records will issue the two-CD Rollins in Holland: The 1967 Studio & Live Recordings, the archival label’s first release by the tenor saxophone legend. (A limited-edition three-LP version of the album will be available at independent retailers for Record Store Day’s Black Friday on November 27.)
