RIP Barbara. This tune reminds me of Weather Report in some respects - a good thing!

          Great track, JK...

...but what's with the (?pseudo) crackle? I'm sure the original vinyl did not have that (it might now of course!)

Lovely tribute to Barbara from Alyn Shipton in the latest JazzWise:

Alyn Shipton pays tribute to the pioneering saxophonist and bandleader who has died aged 77

Thanks Alyn - I hope you won't mind me reproducing it here.

(There are others too in this issue).

Only just got the sad news. The end of an era, but she probably wouldn't want us to think like that. The jazz obits seem to be overlooking some of her outstanding orchestral, chamber and solo compositions, a reminder that she studied saxophone and classical composition at the Royal College. A lot are available on her personal website, along with the scores, I believe. There's also a DVD of Barbara Thompson at the BBC. Maybe it'll make BBC4 some time. RIP. Much missed
And the tune ends too soon for us all

Indeed, a very comprehensive website (https://barbara-thompson.co.uk/) and being ably managed by Ana Gracey.
