Thanks Jr. That was a great read, and I have come to admire a man I had never heard of before. Isn't that life! His story has all the ingredients for a contemporary documentary - choose your angle. Autumn Leaves topical of course and for me, a dyed in the wool New Orleans Blues and Trad man, it represents my move away from my first love to coming to enjoy the many saxophone players and their bands of later decades. (Coltrane still a bridge too far). Autumn Leaves a typical sound and performance for me. I had to look for Cornbread. Well, he paved the way for the rock'n roll sax players who livened up many a hit. A good Saturday morning.

I guess Lee Morgan's 1967 album Cornbread (Blue Note) was entitled in tribute?
