Excellent, with no punches pulled. More like this please.

Btw, it was Amram's insistance that Land play on the soundtrack sessions that got Harold into financially much needed session work. The studio was saying, "who is this, a jazz guy? We've never heard of him, why him?".

        4pm - Jazz Record Requests

Alyn Shipton with listeners' requests for recordings by British artists including Roger Beaujolais, Quentin Collins, Lindsay Hannon and Huw Warren.

Excellent promo for British artists. thanks! For those who don't know, Lindsay Hannon is a vocalist from Tyneside.

Alyn Shipton presents jazz records requested by Radio 3 listeners.

Regretfully, I have patchy knowledge of British Jazz, but I really enjoyed this edition of JRR. What stood out was the natural sounds of the instruments, beautiful in their own right, no need for honking, squealing, shrieking, unusual harmonics, etc, etc.

I guess that's where I came into Jazz in my teens, enjoying very toneful music (e.g. Getz-Desifinado, Duke). Converted to free Jazz in late teens, but eventually turned away from those bad sounds. Didn't fancy Jazz-rock or Jazz Fusion, so moved into the classical area.

In recent years, I feel I have made amends , and enjoy more or less the whole gamut of Jazz currently being performed. But I still have an underlying preference for "toneful" sounds, and I feel these will in time eventually win out, even in the Free Jazz sector.
