4pm - Jazz Record Requests
Alyn Shipton with listeners' requests for recordings by British artists including Roger Beaujolais, Quentin Collins, Lindsay Hannon and Huw Warren.
Excellent promo for British artists. thanks! For those who don't know, Lindsay Hannon is a vocalist from Tyneside.
I guess that's where I came into Jazz in my teens, enjoying very toneful music (e.g. Getz-Desifinado, Duke). Converted to free Jazz in late teens, but eventually turned away from those bad sounds. Didn't fancy Jazz-rock or Jazz Fusion, so moved into the classical area.
In recent years, I feel I have made amends , and enjoy more or less the whole gamut of Jazz currently being performed. But I still have an underlying preference for "toneful" sounds, and I feel these will in time eventually win out, even in the Free Jazz sector.
