I have to say, regarding your comment about straddling, I was surprised to hear Ian singing the praises of Steve Coleman in the context of his M-Base work, blatantly a fusion sort of jazz.Last edited by Joseph K; 24-03-22, 20:10.

I've been listening to a lot of the new generation, F-Ire Collective etc, from 2003 CDs and broadcasts, and rate Robert Mitchell as one of the finest British pianists to come after the likes of John Taylor and Keith Tippett, (or the unalikes, rather!); this track reminds me harmonically of stuff from 1970s Canterbury prog rock, Hatfield & The North, Gilgamesh, National Health and so on.

I'm willing to bet you can't wait for the BBC's forthcoming Jazzathon on Mingus, this coming weekend.
