Norma Winstone is on at The Vortex this coming Saturday, in the company of guitarist John Parricelli and pianist Huw Warren, and I intend going. I'm kicking myself right now for missing Dylan Bates's gig there last night with his band Penge Triangle - named after settlement at the bottom of the hill, where Dylan lives, I am told, not Bermuda. Locals are afraid that gentrification will lead to the place name acquiring a French pronunciation, but that of course depenge. Dylan is brother to the more famous Django, and, as well as being arguably London's best-dressed jazz musician, he is no mean fiddler.

Tonight, a benefit for Louis Moholo, who is presently unwell, taking place at The Vortex, and including drummer Mark Sanders alongside some of those who have worked with Louis over the years: Evan Parker, Steve Beresford, John Edwards, Caroline Kraabel, Jason Yard and Alexander Hawkins. Very sadly I shall not be able to attend, my friend, who is a member of the club, having tried several times by phone and email but not succeeded in contacting the venue to book us in.
One would hope Louis gets a good attendance; The Vortex needs to get its act together if it to survive the likely drop in audiences while this virus rules the land.

Kurt Rosenwinkel at the Jazz Cafe London on March 30, 7PM. This was supposed to happen in 2020. Yesterday I booked my hostel and train tickets, and for the former I need to check in at 3PM so I'll have several hours to kill, if anyone from the London area fancies going for a smoothie or something.
