For example, tracks are frequently announced with little or any information about practices, approaches, groups, background and biographical details, past and present collaborations, and dates of recordings selected. Guidance - of the kind presented in The New Music Show where performers and composers are interviewed - is much needed, especially for ill-equipped newcomers likely to be put off by the gap many experience when making the leap beyond mainstream musical genres, jazz included - the present assumption seems to be of a select and already knowledgeable audience.
Yes - and that is to be welcomed, of course. My personal problem with the programme (which I enjoy listening to, mostly*) is that, with so many short pieces following in quick succession, I lose track <ho-ho> of which piece is by which artists, so catching up on something that has particularly interested me I find very difficult**. (With the CotW-like focus on a single artist of the much-missed Geoffrey Smith's Jazz, following up on content was a much easier and more rewarding activity.)

    * - "mostly" because - due to a combination of Corey Mwamba's gentle delivery, the lateness of the hour, and my advancing age - I tend to nod off about 2/3 through the programme! - bring me my Horlics whilst I put my slippers and cardigan on, would you.)

** - a problem I also have with the New Music Show.

I suppose I ought to listen to at least a couple of editions of this programme. So far, I have been put off doing so by the short durations of the items played. Music in this general ethos tends, in my experience, to develop over a fairly extended performance. I find listening to clips from such performances to be rather frustrating.

I have to agree - and also with ferney's preceding comments.
