Do people have any views on Freeness yet? My own thoughts are that while the programme is welcome as an invaluable entree to often neglected areas of experimental musical practices not covered by the New (concert) Music category catered for in The New Music Show, more context needs to be provided. For example, tracks are frequently announced with little or any information about practices, approaches, groups, background and biographical details, past and present collaborations, and dates of recordings selected. Guidance - of the kind presented in The New Music Show where performers and composers are interviewed - is much needed, especially for ill-equipped newcomers likely to be put off by the gap many experience when making the leap beyond mainstream musical genres, jazz included - the present assumption seems to be of a select and already knowledgeable audience.

Boris Johnson is to present a new series called "Fridgeness". It's entirely based around the "hum" of various makes of refrigerators he's hidden inside, overlaid with the outraged cries and law suits of the various women he has known, married and divorced, a entirely random number. It's all highly experimental, a mixture of Stockhausen and Fridgadaire. Getting breakfast done.

My main problem is that inevitably some tracks are not my cup of tea and never will be, e.g. Trevor Watts last week. But that's always the case, whichever presenter.
