Liam Noble is someone I have a lot of admiration for - from his extraordinary treatments of standards, on the CD with Ingrid Laubrock or in his own unaccompanied medleys - ("Do you ever lost you way doing those instant chord substitutions, Liam?" "(In his usual dry delivery) Yep - sometimes even, I can't find my way back!") - by way of his straight ahead band which is never simply straight ahead and goes for it the way British jazz still did back in the 1980s, through to his work with Paul Dunmall, John Edwards and Mark Sanders, where he comes over like a Son of Keith Tippett. I'll probably get this new CD off him the next time he's at a venue I'm at.
