There's an astonishing 37-minute version of 'Fables of Faubus' on this overlooked Mingus album recorded at Wuppertal Town Hall in 1964. Towards the end there's a remarkable Mingus/Dolphy duet which Raymond Horricks has described as "An instrumental equivalent of the Muppet Show. Several minutes of mischief; an absolutely hilarious and spellbinding chit-chat between Dolphy and his leader".
It would be great to hear this duet on JRR sometime.

The Detroit-born pianist Kenny Cox is rarely mentioned in the jazz reference books but he recorded two excellent albums for BLUE NOTE in 1968/69 which were reissued on a single CD(BLUE NOTE 85189).
Although influenced by the Miles Davis mid-60s quintet this well-integrated band has its own identity and it's a mystery why this inventive and exciting modern jazz CD is not better known.

Blazing alto playing from Jackie McLean's overlooked 1991 live album Jackie Mac Attack:

This is one bad tune from Jackie's album entitled "Mac Attack Live". Jackie McLean on alto, Hotep Idris Galeta piano, Nat Reeves bass, and Carl Allen on the ...

Fascinated by this musician but put off by the prohibitive price of the CD's. This track is a gem. A mixture of free jazz and Duke Ellington (although you have to wait a bit for the Ducal influence! ) Not nearly enough music on Youtube either:-

Someone was complaining about the manufactured quality of the CD's by Fujii on AMazon. The quality of the music is amazing none-the less - her American orchestra is pretty star-studded.

She seems to be extremely prolific and her CD's never get anything less than goodreviews on All about jazz. She is the second Asian jazz misician who has really impressed this month. Still enjoying Youn Sun Nah's latest album and I thought her set was the highight of this year's Vienne.
