    Dave Samuels 1948-2019

Have only just come across this news.

Dave Samuels, a Grammy-award winning vibraphonist best known for his work with Spyro Gyra, passed away April 22 in New York City after a long illness.

Blimey, not to be confused with our own David Samuels, long time forumista and FoR3 supporter, albeit less in evidence these days. That gave me a bit of a shock!

[Add - I've amended the thread title to avoid confusion.]
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I must admit Dave Samuels' name has rather passed me by - probably his being a vibraphonist, not my greatest area of interest.

Incidentally, scroll down to the bottom of that linked tribute, and there's a very good reminscence of Cecil Taylor by fellow American jazz pianist Myra Melford.
