Happy New Ears to all our readers - it's Twilight of the Jive

    Sat 29 Dec
    4pm - Jazz Record Requests

If you want Jazz you götter have some dämmerung Wagner at 5pm first.

    12midnight - Geoffrey Smith's Jazz
Geoffrey Smith celebrates the joyful jump band of Arkansas-born saxophonist and singer Louis Jordan (1908-75), the king of American jive.

Geoffrey invites you to party with saxophonist-singer Louis Jordan

    New Year's Eve
    12midnight - Jazz Now

Soweto Kinch presents pianist Stefano Bollani.

    Note the time change.

Taking us by the hand into a New Year we're all so much looking forward to, at 3.30pm Radio 4 starts a new 8-parter The Prime Meridian - part of its ongoing Making History series, with a half-hour episode titled The Journey from Stonehenge to Jazz. Something to do with the fact that the Jazz Archive at Loughton is located on the meridian. I'm sure it will all be brimming with significance; but no, I can't figure it out, either. Offering relief after a couple of hours celebrating Andrew Lloyd Webber's 70th birthday, Radio 2 has Jamie Cullum chatting with fellow singer Harry Connick Jr. between 7 and 9pm

New Year's Eve Jazz at Carnegie Hall!

The John Coltrane Quintet, together with Sonny Rollins & Co, Nina Simone as an added attraction, plus Thelonioius Monk and his group. The Carnegie Hall bar will be open. Tickers $3.50 to $5.00.

Only problem, it's 1961! Just seen the original poster for this. An incredible line up for a mere $5...

Never mind, have a good one anyway!
