On Radio 4, 11.30am 25 October (just now!)
Programme 2 of 3
Too late, I only got to know about this programme through a website devoted to British jazz of the 1960s/70s, and will have to listen later because I'm having two ladies for lunch today.*
Duncan Lamont is a British tenor saxophonist whose unique tone has been heard on thousands of recordings. he was one of the key UK studio musicians and also performed regularly with Frank Sinatra when the singer toured the UK. Then, without warning, Lamont fouind himself unwanted. He talks to Andrew McGibbon about his life and times - and playing alongside Sinatra.
Daryl Runswick, who was with the Dankworths at the time, (as Lamont might then have been) was taken on as Sinatra's bass guitarist - might have been for these tours or one of them: his regular either did not or could not play bass guitar. I'll see if I can dig out the reference later.
*Roasted or steamed, can't make up my mind.
