4 pm - Jazz Record Requests
Champion of the little-known C-melody saxophone Frankie Trumbauer is featured in Alyn Shipton's pick of listeners' requests for music in all styles of jazz.
5 pm Jazz Line-Up
Kevin Le Gendre looks ahead to the year in jazz in the company of singer Claire Martin. Plus a performance by guitarist Rob Luft recorded in November at the London Jazz Festival.
Rob Luft, a regular around these parts, and in bands appearing at our much missed local weekly gig in New Cross a few years ago, is someone I can heartily recommend.
12 midnite Geoffrey Smith's Jazz
Tonight's programme is repeated to mark the 80th anniversary of Benny Goodman's famous Carnegie Hall concert - the first performance given by a jazz orchestra in the renowned New York City venue - and considers the evolution of jazz in concert.
I thought the following programme should be mentioned - on Radio 2 on Sunday - as it mentions the Brighton-based tenor saxophonist Julian Nicholas, once a member of the fondly remembered Loose Tubes, this being the first I've heard of him for quite some time. His style is subtly unshowy, quite close to Iain Ballamy's.
Sun 14 Jan
9 pm Clare Teal
The jazz singer presents a broad spectrum of big band and swing, plus guests, tonight with musician Julian Nicholas and singer Claire Martin, co-curators of the South Coast Festival (20-27 January). Claire also marks Tuesday's 80th anniversary of Benny Goodman's famous concert at Carnegie Hall in New York.
She'll be expected to Sing, Sing, Sing... (And I'll get my coat, coat, coat.).
Mon 15 Jan
11 pm Jazz Now
Soweto Kinch introduces a concert by Darcy James Argue from the 2017 London Jazz Festival. The Brooklyn-based composer and bandleader's 18-piece ensemble Secret Society perform Real Enemies.
I think Ian has drawn our attention in recommendation of Mr Argue at various points along the way here - could be wrong?
As Humph Lyttelton would have said, if there's anything I've missed on here, tough.
