Time to call up the Cab.

    Sat 9 Dec
    4.00 Jazz Record Requests

Alyn Shipton introduces more listener requests, including New Orleans-style music by English trumpeter Ken Colyer (1928-88) and his classic 1950s line-up featuring clarinettist Ian Wheeler and trombonist Mac Duncan.

    5.00 Jazz Line-Up
Julian Joseph presents a concert by American trumpeter Terence Blanchard and the BBC Concert Orchestra, recorded last month at the Barbican as part of the London Jazz Festival. Featuring Joe Zawinul's Stories of the Danube in a performance conducted by Kristjan Jarvi

Will the Barbican event have featured Mr Blanchard's multiplying trumpet harmoniser effect, featured a few years ago with Herbie Hancock's visiting band? I wasn't there. One awaits in fear and trepidation.

    Midnight - Geoffrey Smith's Jazz
Cab Calloway (1907-94), known as "the Hi-de-ho-man", was famed for his outrageous scat singing and dress sense. But he also led a band featuring the likes of Dizzy Gillespie. Geoffrey Smith pays tribute.

Saluting Cab Calloway, who led a great band featuring the likes of Dizzy Gillespie.

    Mon 11 Dec
    11.00 Jazz Now

Soweto Kinch presents Hexagonal in concert at Herts Jazz Festival in Welwyn Garden City, playing the music of the great South African jazz musician Bheki Mseleku, with pianist John Donaldson and saxophonist Jason Yarde in the line-up.

Soweto Kinch presents Hexagonal in concert in Welwyn Garden City.

And on Tuesday, 7 pm, on Radio 2, Jamie Cullum's regular hour-long programme includes Keith Tippett, no less. Compulsory listening.

Farbeit from me to be in any way critical of the selection of tracks in the Calloway programme coming up on Saturday night, but it looks to be a little more about the band (with several non-vocal tracks) than about CC himself. So, if you want to hear Cab's biographer and Cab's grandson discussing his music, then try this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b008h8hl
