    An Octoberfest of Delights

    Sat 14 Oct
    4 pm Jazz Record Requests

For Radio 3's Why Music? The Key to Memory weekend Alyn Shipton introduces memory-themed requests, including highlights of recorded concert performances by Humphrey Lyttelton and Ted Heath. Plus specific recollections of Bill Dixon and Chick Corea.

    5 pm Jazz Line-Up
Julian Joseph explores the theme of music and memory, with musicians performing well-known jazz standards from memory. The live music includes a collaboration between pianist Nikki Yeoh and harpist Tori Handsley, students from the Royal Academy of Music and a specially assembled quartet.

The best of the BBC, with the latest news and sport headlines, weather, TV & radio highlights and much more from across the whole of BBC Online

    12 midnight Geoffrey Smith's Jazz
BC Radio 3's Wellcome Collection residency inspires Geoffrey Smith to showcase jazz performances recaling people and places from the past. Billie Holiday, Eric Dolphy, Duke Ellington and Charlie Parker all figure in tonight's playlist.

Geoffrey Smith showcases performers and music recalling people and places from the past.

    Mon 16 Oct
    11 pm Jazz Now

Soweto Kinch introduces a concert by drummer Dejan Terzic, featuring pianist Bojan Z, and Emma Smith talks to Matthew Bourne about his new album.

Matthew Bourne comes up for a duo performance in London sometime in November with someone he's long admired, Keith Tippett. I'll keep everyone posted on the details.

Soweto Kinch presents a concert by drummer Dejan Turzik.

    Tues 17 Oct
    11 pm Late Junction

Verity Sharp heads to the edgelands of Lincolnshire for a special programme recorded at home with one of the most distinctive voices in British songwriting, Robert Wyatt. Wyatt talks Verity through some of the music that has helped shape him as an artist and the stories that go with it.

Should be a most enlightening programme with this most engaging of personalities, who makes all sorts of connections between music, politics and different cultures and has always drawn all this into his music.

Thanks for posting this S_A. I hadn't noticed it and thought you had forgot!

Your posts are always very welcome, although any comment usually seems redundant. However a very good JRR this week, with one of my favourites, Sonny Rollins, Miles and Bird.
