Thinking of requesting something from Katanga! ~ Wish someone would reissue it.

Agreed. Curtis Amy is another who should be re-appraised.

        IMHO.

        BN.

According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.

thanks for the amy/bolton tip jazz rook.

'katanga' is a suprising mixture. the guys supporting are great too: ray crawford, vic gaskin, doug sides and jack wilson. although frank evans reckons ronnie seliko on drums, and what sounds like 'doa coca' on piano ..... which is confusing.

thanks also for the interesting link to dupree bolton's troubled life story 'in search of dupree bolton'. (unfortunately) the story is a familiar one. nevertheless, dupree's story provides the perfect antidote to assumptions about musicians 'just enjoying playing as reward enough' as implied upthread, on the thread titled 'it's tough being a musician'.

bolton's trumpet style is on fire - perfect for friday de-stress imo. him and curtis amy and everyone are full of energy on 'katanga' title track.

            dupree bolton plays blues trumpet:

the chance to tune in to 'frankly jazz' on krhm fm jazz radio, every day from 1-5pm .... with frank evans, must have provided a great escape. i wonder what east coast radio stations were playing in comparison?

seemingly, frank evans can't get enough input from listeners, is genuinely excited enough to make regular rallying prompts, urgeing his tv viewers to 'remember, america's only true art form ...is american jazz'!

Dolo Coker at a guess. I think he made a few records as leader, but I've only come across him as a sideman.
