    You might have missed these

Just wanted to draw attention to 2 forthcoming programmes on 3 with tangential jazz connections:

    Tonight's Pre-Hear - 10.00-10.30
"Highlights from the BBCSO's Total Immersion events, featuring the music of Hungarian composer and conductor Peter Eotvos played by students from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Jules Buckley conducts the Guildhall Jazz Band in 'Paris-Dakar' and David Corkhill directs the Guildhall New Music Ensemble in the 'Sonata per sei'.

Eotvos is a brilliant composer, somewhere midway between Witold Lutoslawski and Luciano Berio stylistically I guess, if this helps. You may have heard some of his orchestral music on Hear and Now a coupla weeks or so ago. I haven't heard his jazz-orientated stuff. For posting this link I might well get schott, but it seems just about the best introduction:

The other item if you're not still in church is tomorrow's Private Passions - 12 noon-1pm - the subject being musician and actor Max Beesley, who's worked as a drummer/percusionist in the past with, amo, The Brand New Heavies and, on vibes, Theo Travis.

He might want to tell us why he doesn't do as much jazz, these days.

He could also tell us why the excellent "Survivors" was axed just as series two ended on a climx!

Really annoying as this was an excellent drama.
