Seb has gone bald, by choice I presume; John is gradually going bald, probably not by choice; but Laura still possesses a full head of hair. (Does anyone remember the trio The Recedents? Named according to Charles Fox in accordance with each member's receding hairline?)

Yes, I was told about this back in May, when we learned that he and the Chicagoan alto player Matana Roberts had tied the knot. Noting that she still retains her full Afro, I had wondered if this news about Seb was a wind-up, or some kind of Samson complex working itself out. However, the new shaven-headed Seb was on full form, driving Mark Lockheart's piece at the LJF in November.

FYI - Lol Coxhill on soprano sax and tape loops, Mike Cooper guitar and synthesiser, and percussionist Roger Turner. Lol's no more, sadly; Roger Turner appears at improv sessions; and erstwhile folk singer/guitarist Mike Cooper is still going strong, and sporting long, now white hair - I spoke with him at one of the talks at the LJF.

Tearing myself away from the excitement of the BBC Carol Concert Winner announcement, this Jazz Now was a five star programme. Ellery Eskelin really my type of music. I must learn more about this ere Hip - Hop. A form of medieval chant?

Ronnie Scott's definition, iirc, was something like a surgical procedure sometimes carried out on people past their prime of life.

Listening to the programme now. Enjoyed Ellery Eskin and Golson but think Soweto Kinch's combination of rap and jazz is much more interesting than Glasper's.

Found the Shabaka Hutchings programme interesting. The choices seemed to reflect on aspects of his own music as far as I know it.

A useful counter-balance to Soweto's and Robert's enthusiasm for Rap/ Hip-hop. I guess Jazz should be fully open to other forms of black music, but may be there is a danger that Hip-Hop is too big, and would just swallow up Jazz if the connection were pursued too diligently.
