    Breckersit - the latest Raja

    Sat 3 Dec
    4.00 Jazz Record Requests

A selection of listeners' requests from the world of jazz, presented by Alyn Shipton

    5.00 Jazz Line-Up
Recorded at the London Jazz Festival last month, a performance by fusion bassist Shez Raja and his Collective. Raja trained on the violin from the age of nine, but switched to the bass when he was 13, which allowed him to explore his love of jazz and high-energy grooves. He has toured with, among others, Elephant Talk, Loka, and platinum-selling hip-hop artist MC Lyte, and more recently has collaborated with trumpeter Randy Brecker and guitarist Mike Stern on his album Gurutopia. Presented by Julian Joseph.

    Must be all right then...

No Geoffrey Smith Jazz tonight as Morton Feldman's second string quartet enjoins would-be listeners for an all-night long sleepathon.

    Mon 5 Dec
    11.00 Jazz Now

The fifth Jazz Now concert from the 2016 London Jazz Festival, with Carla Bley directing Charlie Haden's Liberation Music Orchestra at Cadogan Hall.

For those who may be interested, on Tuesday 6th Jamie Cullum interviews Billy Joel in the first of a 2-parter with the Soul star on Radio 2 at 10 pm.

There's a good review of the Carla Bley Liberation Music concert on Richard Williams' Blue Moment blog. Linking it to TRUMP.

BN. aka "DJ Crush the fascist insects, forwards to world socialism!" A fine third period slogan often invoked by Kenny Kingtone, impro hero of the working class.

Glad you enjoyed it BN. Seneca is a graduate of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra - if your C120 collection goes back that far, I'm pretty sure he was on the Barbican version of Ellington's Peer Gynt that we did on R3 about 15 years ago, with the LSO playing Grieg's original and the LCJO playing the Ellington versions. Other trumpeters then (from memory) included Ryan Kysor and Marcus Printup.

Enjoyed it enormously Alyn. I can't remember when I've been so impressed, me being a 70 year old cynic! Hugely impressed by Seneca of who I knew absolutely nothing (despite your refs) , but I gather is highly and deservedly regarded. So good I am copying C90s to (non tech) friends. Not allowed? Too late, ready for posting! Marvelous stuff. Thanks very much.

          BN.
