Bob Cranshaw RIP

[BLUESNIK'S REVOX]

Word coming in, now seemingly confirmed, that bassist Bob Cranshaw (Sonny, Bluenote and the world) has just died. He was suffering from an aggressive stage 4 cancer. I particularly remember him on one of Alyn's programs (I think) explaining how the "pick up" on Sidewinder was dropped back in. From all accounts and tributes, not just a very fine bassist, but he was also a very nice guy.

So sad to hear this, he was a very fine Bassist. I think the quote from a critic (can't remember which) on being asked on how to define swing he said " any two notes played consecutively by Paul Chambers" I think that quote equally applies to Bob Cranshaw. I shall give Hank Mobley's "Caddy for Daddy" Blue Note with fine bass playing by Bob a spin tonight.
