    Claire Martin presents a duo performance by saxophonist Courtney Pine and pianist Zoe Rahman, recorded last month on the Jazz Line-Up stage as part of the Gateshead Jazz Festival and featuring their interpretations of jazz standards including A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square and Girl Talk*.

    *Nice tune, of its time, as are the not-so-nice lyrics (which we won't be hearing, mercifully. )

        Indeed, classic - indeed Hefti - example of political incorrectitude that it is. As to the lyrics of the other song, that square once prompted me to make a most awful little verse about Tony Payne's splendid Time's Arrow as follows:

        I shot Time's Arrow into the air.
        It fell to the ground.
        Hit Berkeley.
        Square.

        Coat's already on.

        Now back to jazz, following that unforgivable intrusion...

          I have nothing against Emma as presenter, an attractive youthful presence, she's probably used to dealing with groups of old men!
          But I'm forming the opinion that Soweto may be better off playing his sax rather than presenting, judging from his interview of Branford Marsalis last week. I felt I was overhearing a chat in a pub, where Soweto had perhaps one too many. Rapping good however.
