New Chet Baker movie "Born to be blue"

    "BORN TO BE BLUE

    Directed by Robert Budreau
    Canada/United Kingdom | 97 minutes | World Premiere

Ethan Hawke stars as Chet Baker in this remarkably creative reimagining of the legendary jazz trumpeter's struggle to overcome his drug addiction and stage a comeback.

Ethan Hawke is utterly magnetic as Chet Baker, the legendary trumpeter and singer who, after becoming a jazz icon in the 1950s, became equally famous for his drug addiction. Born to be Blue reimagines Baker's life as a mixture of fact and fiction, picking up his story late in his career when, after years of heroin abuse, financial loss, and public disgrace, he attempts to stage a comeback. Starring in a film about his own infamous life, Baker strikes up a passionate romance on and off the set with Jane (Carmen Ejogo), the actress playing one of his lovers, but his hopes for a bright future are suddenly darkened when he suffers a brutal beating in a parking lot after a gig"

After "Miles in the hood", here's our Chet. The trailer is on Youtube and it ain't too hopeful...Miles to Chet at Birdland (Chet's ambition is to play Birdland, with or without his own teeth), "come back when you've lived a little".

My biopic of Elmo Hope is hopefully coming out next year...a re-imagining of Elmo's life as he is suddenly rediscovered by a stray request on JRR, becomes a UK artistic sensation, moves to Soho, gets married to Charlotte Rampling (Queen of the beatniks) and plays triumphant boogie woogie with Jools Holland and the LSO at the last night of the Proms. Georgie Fame will (hopefully) play " Elmo". Boris Johnson will play a crooked London jazz empresario called, "Boris".

    BN.

I've done a bit of am dram, can I play the part of Monk in your Movie? I could notate the Concerto that (inevitably) Elmo would want to write and we could have Monk conducting the masterwork with the Boston Pops orchestra and Elmo in tails striking a suitable pose..... I can visualise the whole thing now.

You are on - I'll bring the merlot, but give Charlotte the boot. I have had a word with Ron Coltrane's aunt Nellie and she said she would do the part for nothing all she needs is a bebop beret and a stick on goatee - its a win win and the bonus of more merlot for us.
