Didn't know that - interesting, and thanks - also to Ian.

I was quite interested to read the favourable review on All Music as this is not probably one of his best albums even though I enjoy it. You can appreciate that it was trying to tap in to the James Brown thing but Hancock's music is always too sophisticated to be than boring. If you like, it is more akin in spirt to something like Albert Ayler's "New Grass." I understand why you gave it away although I think it is fun.

There are two weird things about the album. The first is that the two ballads actually sound quite contemporary whereas the rest is what you would call "of it's time." The other thing is that only half of the personal is names on the sleeve. Bernard Purdie and Joe Newman (both on the Alyer record, btw) are not listed and Eric Gale's guitar is missing a mention too.

                          Hiya Beefy,

Those Wayne Shorter Blue Note albums from the mid-sixties are quite superb!

'Ju Ju' is his greatest album I think and 'Speak No Evil' quite excellent too. There is a reissued budget Blue Note box comprising of 'Night Dreamer', 'The Soothsayer', 'Etcetera', 'Adam's Apple' & 'Schizophenia' which is a real steal:

And all those mentioned above are on a more expensive Blue Note box:
