I'll be playing this tonight in honour of jazz pianist Horace Parlan who died on 23rd February. As a baby he was left on the steps of a Pittsburgh orphanage. Contracted polio aged five and on his right hand could only use two fingers. RIP

It's ages since I bought an ECM record but have been spinning the latest John Abercrombie record "Up and coming" which features Marc Copeland, Drew Gress and Joey Baron. I would have to say that I think that JA is the most consistent musician on this label and someone I used to follow assiduously. This disc is really good and includes a great version of Jazzrook's favourite, "Nardis." Abercrombie is a class act and probably the apogee of more straight ahead guitar. No one has a tone like him.

Elmo - I will check out the Monkestra next week. Off to Wembley tomorrow,

One of my favorite records, that I yoof-fully bought as a 12 inch Esquire LP that had a great b/w scapperboard sleeve of a communications satalite. Apparently there are loads of session out-takes as Sonny wasn't satisfied? And Art left his hi hat at home. "The pianist has ten thumbs"... Jazz Journal review. Whatttt, Elmo?! Never!

It's taken me over 50 years before hearing 'Moving Out'.
                              Wish I'd discovered it earlier!
Also love the quartet track, 'More Than You Know' with Monk.
