Shelly Manne & His Men with Joe Gordon, Richie Kamuca, Victor Feldman & Monty Budwig playing Horace Silver's 'How Deep Are The Roots' live at The Black Hawk in 1959:
Yes, I believe so. I’ve just read Moanin'was written by pianist Bobby Timmons with the encouragement of Benny Golson during a session by Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers. As I have said previously, I know very little about jazz, and I only know Moanin' in this version.

Enjoyed that, elmo - a new name to me.
Here's another obscure vibist, Earl Griffith, from Cecil Taylor's great 1958 album, 'Looking Ahead!'.
Wish he'd made more recordings.

New name to me too.
I have that early CT album - picked it up at the last ever Bracknell. Pat Thomas wanted to know where I'd got it, saying he'd been searching for it for years.

I originally bought Cecil Taylor's 'Looking Ahead' LP together with 'The Best of Little Walter' from Dobell's back in the '60s.
The assistant gave me a strange look as I handed the two albums over.
CT would probably have liked Little Walter's music but not the other way round!
I still love both albums.

Thanks for the link, TF. I did watch Celeste yesterday evening at the event; to be quite honest I really don't understand what all the fuss is about: her most striking feature was her hair! Maybe just me but very limited in both the voice and materials departments. There are younger artistes here doing much more interesting stuff. I'll catch up with Herbie Hancock later tonight.
This Herbie group and Angelique Kidjo were the only artists of interest to me at Vienne as even the free to enter gigs looked uninspiring. Gave the festival
a miss this year and just got back from Qatar to meet a friend.
