    Wonderful track, BN.
Would be great to hear it on JRR.
Have managed to track down 'The Kerry Dancers' on a bargain 4-CD set including 8 of JG's Riverside albums.

When Alyn did the Jazz Library on/with JG I did suggest some of those because there's a wide range, including the Billie Holiday tribute. But I gather Johnny had drunk two bottles of red wine so maybe wasn't so forthcoming!

The "Way Out" album with Kenny Drew, Wilbur Ware and Philly JJ is magnificent? I always thought it was up there with 50s Rollins. Some wonderful "dark" playing from all.

Prompted by the release of https://matchlessrecordings.com/music/under-sun

I have been listening to the quite separate 5.1 surround mix derived from the ambisonic recording I made of the event represented on this new multi-mic'd Matchless release. I look forward to hearing the CD as and when I can pick one up at a future gig.

Sonny Rollins with Tommy Flanagan, Doug Watkins & Max Roach playing 'Blue 7' from 'Saxophone Colossus' in 1956:

"Blue 7" is the fifth and final track on Sonny Rollin's "Saxophone Colossus"

"Captain Black Big Band" - Orrin Evans' first album with this group because the size was down-scaled. Job to know exactly how to classify this band but suppose the closest would be to compare it to efforts by the likes of the late Jimmy Heath. The album consists of tracks culled from a number of liver performances which allow the soloists to really stretch out and the whole band put together some really honest playing. Most of the names are obscure but there are a few soloists like Jalel Shaw who have a large profile. For my money this record is pretty decent, aggressive contemporary jazz. The kind of music I would envisage appealing more to Bluesnik, Elmo and Jazzrook.

                    "a number of liver performances"...
                    A heavy drinking band?
                    Will check them out, Ian!

That would have to be a jaundiced view of it, JR!

Their repertoire, "Easy livering", "Liver Man", "Liver is a many splendored thing" etc are not necessarily representative of the clean livering band themselves.

As Charlie Parker famously said, "just a small glass of sherry before dinner".

Not forgetting their masterpiece, 'A Liver Supreme'.

They named the TV series The Liver Birds after him, I'm told.

I'm very fond of James Brown's "Liver at the Apollo"
