    Hiya Stan,

I meant the Dolphy record is wonderful - but I am glad it's made you check out McLaughlin. Given what I know about your taste in jazz, this might be up your alley:

Inteview with McLaughlin here where he discusses his new album via a telephone call from his home in Monaco...

In this exclusive interview, John McLaughlin recalls the origins of the Mahavishnu Orchestra, and discusses his new album, Liberation Time.

i think the process of making this album will raise some eyebrows amongst the more traditional members in this chatroom.

I have been revisiting some old CDs this week including clarinetist Andy Biskin's "Trio Tragico" from 2005 where he leads a group with trumpeter Dave Ballou and bassist Drew Gress. There if often a "folkish" element in Biskin's work which probably reflects his time as an assistant researcher with Alan Lomax. This album has a degree of whimsicality about it and I suppose you could describe it as what Jimmy Guiffre might have produced if he was asked to make a soundtrack for "Wallace & Gromit. " The group sounds totally unique and I think that it is one of the most original albums of the 2000's. There is a good-natured degree of pep with the livelier tracks but it is the pathos of the more thoughtful pieces that pack the punch....

That's a strange concidence, seeing my heading for next week's offerings. How often in the lifetime of a jazz person does the word "solid" come up? Not often, I'll wager - definitely not twice in one week...

"There are more things in heaven and earth than.... " etc etc.

"Darkened, yet shone" (N. O. Moore, John Edwards, Eddie Prévost)

I am usually somewhat wary of edits from live improvisations but a fine job has been made of this 52, or so, minutes from an August 2017 Iklectik gig.

Now, was I there? I'm sure I would have said hello, so I think probably not. 2017 now seems so long ago. So thanks for reproducing this.
