NP: Marta Sanchez quintet, "El Rayo de Luz", featuring Chris Cheek on tenor. New name to me, she's from Spain but living in NYC since 2011. This CD was a Downbeat editor's pick and one of the New York Times best records of 2019.

Miles Davis on David Sanborn's NBC TV show in '89. Lovely Kenny Garrett alto halfway through, on Mr Pastorius.

Bill Evans' Sunday at the Village Vanguard arrived today.

It feels as though I've banged on about this album quite a lot, but it is staggeringly beautiful - come to think of it, I can't think of a trio album I like more. It conjures a smoky, often haunting atmosphere. Rhythmically Evans departs quite a bit from the quaver-based bebop rhythms instead favouring often longer durations, which enables bassist Scott LaFaro greater scope to interact with the pianist. Some of the modal harmonies have something very soulful and kind of gospel about them. Terrible that LaFaro died in a car crash not long after recording this, I love his chords and overall style and 'Gloria's Step' is a fine composition.

                        This transcription might aid appreciation:

Bill Evans' solo on "Solar" from the album, "Sunday at the Village Vanguard". Transcribed by guitarist, Matthew Meldon. Bill Evans-piano, Scott LaFaro-bass...

Stumbled onto some old KPM library music dates. Here's an example by David Lindup (father of Mike Lindup of Level 42). He'd clearly been listening to a lot of Gil Evans arrangements when he did this. Listen out for a solo by a musician who needs no intro on this Bored, at 1:52. His style is unmistakeable.
