The new Holdsworth record still hasn't arrived so I'm listening to the Warsaw '98 one.

Another very good, mainstream, up-tempo tune from this underrated CD. A different tune than the one by Randy Weston of the same name, but apparently each wa...

"Mindset" is available on the 10 -CD box set. It is available for just over £40 . I bought my copy about 18 months ago when it was about £28 but it is still value for money at the higher price. There are still copies available on Amazon.

Just lined up Max Roach’s Freedom Now Suite for a listen, after reading the sleeve notes for his Live in Berlin disc.

I’m assuming it is a good one.........

Interesting article concerning the current UK jazz scene which offers some interesting insights and perhaps a different perspective. A timely article, if given to some of Mr May's hyperbole.

I’m not sure I got the full measure of it on first listen , but it is undoubtedly an extraordinary record, and I enjoyed it greatly. Very special singing, amongst other things.

                        Allan Holdsworth - Frankfurt '86

Only just finished listening to the second tune, but already this is superb! Mainly due to Holdsworth's stellar tone, it is truly beautiful, every notes shines. The group make these compositions sound more luscious than ever.

Annoyingly though, the case does not tell you who is in the band - there are pictures, and I recognise all but the keyboard player, who I have since discovered is Kei Akagi.

Mark O'Leary is an Irish-born guitarist who has played with Tomasz Stanko, along with many on the NY "underground" scene. Here is the Fordham's review of his trio album with the extraordinary Vietnamese trumpeter Cuong Vu and drummer Tom Rainey ("Mister Laubrock") from 2006, which I am fortunate to have - a rich performance that reveals more on each hearing. I would describe his style as a guitarist equivalent to Paul Bley, alongside whom he has played - sadly I'm not able to illustrate this as there doesn't appear to be any youtube of him.
