Live at Smalls...Eric Wyatt (tenor) with Roy Hargrove playing Monk's "Evidence". I really like this guy, he's Sonny Rollins' Godson and it shows. His father was also a saxophonist and practiced with Sonny on the "Bridge". He's got a new album out which is a kind of homage to Rollins and features JD Allen on some tracks... interesting contrast. He may not be the "latest" or ground breaking, but he can certainly play & with a commitment. "Nice"!

Btw, thought JRR was excellent again yesterday.

Some of the Live at Smalls CDs are really good and catch the atmosphere and great music in the small basement club really well.

'Looking Glass' by Allan Holdsworth with Alan Pasqua, Jimmy Haslip and Chad Wackerman. This is a gorgeous rendition of a great tune. Holdsworth phrasing is at his most sax-like, just so beautiful, stunningly good.

Roland Kirk with Tete Montoliu, Tommy Potter & Kenny Clarke in Italy, 1964:

That's one hell of a Soprano Sax! ... I know ... I know :-) with Teti Montoliu on piano; Tommy Potter on bass; Kenny Clarke on drums.

Wish someone would reissue Ted Curson's almost impossible to find 1966 quartet album 'Urge'(FONTANA) with Booker Ervin, Jimmy Woode & Edgar Bateman:

Allan Holdsworth also played violin sometimes; do you happen to know of any recordings with him on it, Joseph?

Just to follow up on Ian's fine Kate McGarry clip, Christine Tobin interpreting Leonard Cohen's "Everybody Knows" in fine company, and her old man on the geetar.

Mike Outram's a frequent presence on the London scene - a few Larry Coryell strokes in there, and he often deploys a much raunchier sound than here as well. I think I first heard him in the Mike Garrick Big Band back in the '90s. Hadn't heard of Mr Callard before; spidery!
