Ted Curson's almost impossible to find 1966 album 'Urge' with Booker Ervin, Jimmy Woode & Edgar Bateman:

Been listening to John Scofield's recent "Combo 66" which features Gerald Hamilton playing piano and organ. I have lost track a bit of Hamilton of late but he is a really interesting pianist. I think that Hamilton is what you might describe as "mainstream" but the pairing with Scofield is inspired. It is a really good match. the music is pretty relaxed and is pitched firmly in the post-bop, funk and blues arena with some typically well-written tunes. I like it a lot but it just seems like one of those records which gets better and better the more you listen to it. Really impressed with this disc.

          Feel good music.....

Richard Groove Holmes "Something special" - a fine organist renowned for his great bass lines ( as demonstrated in his support behind the underrated tenorist Clifford Scott). Joe Pass and Les Mc can are on equally good form.

He liked the Nat King Cole version as well and was played on hospital radio recently

As I once said to Norma Winstone: "Are you saying there'll never be another Hugh (Mitchell, her partner)"?

BD, commiserations. The loss of a parent is always a big one to take. Can't think of anything appropriate without being too sombre, but the French "Hawkins" saxophonist Guy Lafitte playing "Que reste-t-il de nos amours" (I wish you love), the old Charles Trénet song, is a celebration of loss, memory & affection and really beautifully played. (It's out of print but on YouTube). Its been a soundtrack for us over Christmas. Best wishes, Richard & Anna.
