This amazing find just now came up on the British Jazz of the 1960s and 70s Facebook site, and it features an Allan Holdsworth still relatively new on the British scene at the time, 1974, playing alongside the nominal leader Pat Smythe - who had supplied Joe Harriott with those extraordinary voicings for the free stuff he pioneered in this country in 1960, and who would only have another 10 years to live, John Marshall, fresh from Ian Carr's Nucleus and Jack Bruce's travelling band on drums (and that's not a wig btw!), and Daryl Runswick, whose main job was with the Dankworths at the time, and who would quit jazz to work with avant-garde vocal groups using electronics in collaborations including with Berio and Cage in the 1980s and '90s. This should appeal to both jazz and fusion people:

TV Festival gig for European Radio - this is the BBC segment. Allan Holdsworth - guitar; Pat Smythe - fender rhodes; Daryl Runswick - bass; John Marshall - d...

If there is a jazz heaven, Allan will be among the stars.

      Prepare to be blown away!
