Not playing a CD but watching this extremely funny film which includes this really nice tune by Norah Jones. Not a song I was familiar with before but I really like this....

Much of the music on this film was orchestrated by John Wilson - much maligned on this board.

Ah. Kenny Burrell. A great guitarist and always worth listening to. There seem to be so few jazz guitarists around these days that go for that nice warm clean sound and bluesy phrasing.

So I admit I skipped Jimmy Garrison's bass solo, but McCoy Tyner and Trane are on fire. It's 65 not 66...

I bought the CD of this but was disappointed to find no improvement in recording quality from the original LP - having splashed out!!! But no one can take away Miles Davis's first solo, on the title track, which has surely to be one of the the most euphoric, life-affirming improvisations ever captured in recording. And nobody else disappoints in the wake of that - which was expecting a lot. Something similar happened when Nikki Iles had to follow Mike Walker at one of Stan Sulzmann's gigs at the "old" Vortex, back in the good ole days: I had to stop myself going over and hugging her!
