    Jazz Ramadam Weekend

Is normal service soon to be resumed?

Am I bovvered? Are you asking me, am I bovvered? Yes, as happens, I am bovvered - as I hope we all are.

    Sat 26 Sept
    6.00 Jazz Line-Up
From The Street at the Wellcome Trust, Julian Joseph presents a programme featuring the interaction of musicians with technology. With Finn Peters (flute/sax), Dave Price (vibes/percussion), Matthew Yee-King (electronics), Tom Skinner (drums) and Nick Ramm (piano), plus solo sets by saxophonist Martin Speake and pianist Neil Cowley.

(Someone please note I've removed the "s" at the end of Mr Ramm's name - but do they care?)

Julian Joseph presents live performance from Finn Peters, Martin Speake and Neil Cowley.

    Mon 28 Sept
    11.00 Jazz on 3

Jez Nelson presents previously unheard tracks from the archives, including performances by the Barry Guy New Orchestra and saxophone and organ duo Wedding Music.

    Barry Guy should be unmissable.

Previously unheard tracks by bassist Barry Guy from the Jazz on 3 archives.

Surprised that if R3 are doing this "thing" they couldn't have made more of the jazz/creativity angle. I mentioned a few weeks back a fascinating article on the guitarist Pat Martino and how he had a large "chunk" of one side of his brain removed as he had had a major neural/cell malformation from birth. He then had to virtually relearn a lot but most of it was still "wired" into the rest of his brain. (I ain't no doctor!) This leads to theories as to the brain's individual structure in terms of creativity and particular motor skills. It "forms" and is formed/modelled in turn.

Takes off white coat and pours another creative bottle of Belgian wheat beer.

    BN.

All is not lost BN. The bit I heard this am, in passing, seemed to suggest that babies were born with the Twelve Bar Blues already installed. I said, the bit I heard this morning.........

Yes - the five-year-old's "Jumble Sale Blues" was a little moment of magic. (Much of what I heard of that discussion was about the necessity of improvization and developing - rather than snuffing out - children's curiosity and creativity, and how [bad, I would say] practice in "Classical" teaching so often does much of this "snuffing". Worth listening to.)
