Good news - I did wonder.

I thought of Calum when the Banjo thread appeared recently. We all know how he loved that jolly joker and I'm glad he can enjoy its sweet tones once more.

It is brilliant to see that my friend Calum is back on the "bored." He has been really missed and is a particular soul-mate for me sharing a lot the same tastes and always willing to acknowledge the full gamut of jazz. I am really pleased that is has returned to his spiritual home and look forward to his generous and informed contributions.

Alyn says he will try to JRR schedule Ran Blake/Jeanne Lee's "Summertime" (Newest Sound Around, RCA*) for Calum in about a months time.

An optimistic, adventurous and accessible reworking. IdeaI IMHO.

              BN.

*I see this is now described now as an "underground cult classic". All it takes is time!

"Recorded in 1961, "The Newest Sound Around"
still is. One thing you can say for sure about
singer Jeanne Lee's and pianist Ran Blake's
mutual debut album is that it didn't trigger an
avalanche of imitators." - Amazon review.

                Really grateful for that, Bluesie.

Caliban, your initial post seems to have got lost in the excitement.

I hope you were able to continue your journey without further mishap.

                  Agreed, an inspired choice.

                    All was well, Oddball, thanks!

And I'm delighted my post has triggered this positive thread, thanks to Calum's response to me!
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

No, I heard it all, thank you kindly, anton!

                        .

PS I started when I realised who this was, in a photo I saw the other day

Looking pretty wind-swept and raffish there, anton!

Just catching up with this thread (and the JRR in question - having been away from the bored on vacation). May I belatedly add my good wishes to Calum for a speedy recovery.
