One of the saddest things in the article for me was about nostalgia - the one thing even I as a jazz non-revisionist had not taken into account as one outcome of neo this and neo that. Jazz is of essence of the moment and should not not NOT be about nostalgia! And in any case, what have Gen Z kids got to be nostalgic about? Them rosy 1990s when we last had a Labour government and we woz all babes?

Major Starmer is looking for lively lads and lasses to get battle ready for the Ukraine front line against the Bolsheviks. IIt is Howling Wolf. The Charley Patton version is almost unitelligible and the poor quality of Paramount's recording process adds to the prehistoric feel of his music.

The original article was complete nonsense. Not sure who Generation Z are and only am aware of TikTok as my wife uses it. I feel I am losing touch with stuff over the last 2 years. Just discovered something called Facebook Reels which is a carp as TikTok but allows you to watch a documentary condensed down to 2 mins which is useful if you do not feel like watching 2 hours of people cutting off each other's limbs in Gladiator 2.

I had no idea how big Ezra Collective were as I thought everyone was into Sabrina Carpenter or Billie Eilish is they were more intellectual. Would like to know if the concept of 'everyone ' has changed as I do not know anyone who is listening to Ezra Collective or even George Ezra. I do not know anyone younger than me who is into jazz but I would also have to say I do not know anyone under 30 who reads books except my niece who is 12.

Probably not typical of my generation because I love reading books, indeed I feel lost without one! As regards musical tastes, I definitely like pop and rock. Whenever not working I usually listen to Radio Three. I have a somewhat developed taste for classical and a budding interest in jazz. How? I developed a habit of listening to JRR on Sundays, and will sometimes catch up on episodes of 'Round Midnight. I like Ezra Collective, and they have gained some prominence even among people who know much less about jazz, like me because of their award earlier this year. I think they recently sold out a football stadium, but I know so little about football, I can't remember which one! :-)

....Oh yes TK, and not an easy thing to cover different aspects....I'm not known for my intellect - but I still find musicians who I think play the sax, but are in fact drummers....Meanwhile I caught TEC on a NPR Live....not really jazz in my opinion, but good musicans who can improvise a bit, but I can absolutely understand why anyone would enjoy it - t'was quite dancey and thrilling....but for me the structure of the jazz head space /nuance wasn't there (on what I heard) these were young people using jazz as their own vehicle....had a completely legitimate nuance of it's own....BUT, you don't expect people born 1995 to have the same mindset as someone born 1919 and those being people who were in at the beginning of the form.... 50% of my jazz knowledge has come from things rec' on this board be that music or text from folk with far more experience than me...Anyway i am struggling not to sound patronizing, but follow the path wherever it takes you TK, you are living at a time when you can access music in volumes and obscurity that I could have only dreamed of in the 70's........https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTKEYo-RIG4

re. Ezra Collective, there was an excellent interview with Femi by Soweto one friday night on 'Round Midnight a little while ago - I can't find the link now. Remember I commented at the time: THAT'S WHERE IT'S AT MAN. Unfortunately I'm too aged to attend raves or sit in people's sitting rooms listening to jazz . However, I shouldn't overlook the fact that if Jazz can't collect young people, than its value is much diminished
