2024 EFG London Jazz Festival itinerary

With main events now transferred to just along from the American Embassy so you can register your V-sign, and a stone's throw from the Vauxhall Gyratory where you can have a little twirl, these are among this year's offerings:

Nestled unassumingly in Nine Elms, Battersea, is one of South London's best kept secrets for serious music lovers - World Heart Beat Embassy Gardens. This state-of-the-art concert hall, recording studio and music academy doesn't pop up in the list of 'usual suspects' when listing London jazz clubs, but it absolutely should. With 120 luxury handmade

The disappointing news of Trump winning wiped out my good mood this morning when I learned Portsmouth had lost another football match last night.

I have to say that the line up for London Jazz festival is seriously underwhelming. Why has this suddenly become more parochial? Not heard of about 90 per cent of these artists. How much of this is actually jazz? Have to say that I am really disappointed by this and seems like LJF is going the way of Vienne.

So little genuinely interesting in the current jazz scene. Seems the same in Southampton as the jazz gigs here have been a bit pants.

S_A, that's only one of the venues...

      More here: https://efglondonjazzfestival.org.uk/

A quick scan of the acts available include Kenny Barron trio, Charles Tolliver doing a tribute to Max Roach on the latter's centenary, Anouar Brahem quartet if you are in the mood for oud, Crosscurrents trio with Dave Holland, Chris Potter and Eric Harland, Pat Metheny and Meshell Ndegocello. Plus loads more.
all words are trains for moving past what really has no name

Many thanks TF - I was wondering when I'd find time to investigate the rest of the fest!

I am disappointed by the line up. Time was that other venues like Basingstoke and Anvil would benefit from those artists performing at LJF. The Anvil no longer seems to put on jazz and I have been led to believe that too many gigs lose money at this venue so jazz's unlikely to be featured again. The Lighthouse in Poole is an 80 mile round trip for me and similarly does not seem to feature much jazz. Even Turner sims in Southampton seems a bit parochial these days.

The Arts Council bread has dried up, that's why. No money to support tours. And not much sign of it returning.

My thoughts exactly, Ian. I recognise very few of these artists. Perhaps I'm just not hip enough to know these hipsters...

Did anyone go to the LJF gigs ?

I saw some publicity for ( I think ) next year's Swanage jazz festival and was quite surprised as the headline acts were both pop groups. Not quite sure if there is an appetite for jazz these days. There had always been creeping commercialism but there seems to be no shame in having no jazz whatsoever in most jazz festivals these days.
